Overview

Our employment practice team has extensive experience advising its clients on redundancies and reductions in the workforce. Many of our clients include large public institutions as well foreign multinational corporations and organisations that, due to ever-changing economic conditions, as well as globalisation, need to redeploy, restructure or downsize their human resources.

We support and advise clients through the planning and implementation of redundancy programs and changing the terms and conditions of the workforce. This also includes redundancies in the wake of corporate rescue plans, policy changes, mergers and acquisitions, opening and closing of local business and reduction or redistribution of activities.

A large number of our clients also operate in industries and fields of work that are regulated by collective agreements, extension orders or are unionised. We therefore have vast experience navigating our clients through any consultation process and negotiating with any unions or employee representative bodies. Invariably, large redundancy exercises do carry the risk of industrial action as well as legal challenge requiring litigation in the labour courts. We have extensive experience successfully advising clients on labour disputes that may result from any proposed redundancy program.
